Runes? What are they?
The
most common and easily recognized virtue of runes is their
magical and divination abilities. It was believed that by calling upon the appropriate rune one
could thereby make contact with the force in Nature in which the
symbol was representing. It
is this combining with nature that has enabled insights and even
prophecies for centuries, right up to the present times of today.
Today, you can see runic symbols everywhere, even when you
don’t realize you are looking at them.
Trees, buildings, talismans, even the written word can be
recognized as runic symbolization, be it a natural coincidence or
not, it simply shows that runes are a part of our everyday lives
and we only have to take a moment to recognize their very
existence to feel their impact.
Consecrating
Your Runes
After
you have taken your runes home, the next thing that you may want to
do is to consecrate them. This is a small dedication that will add
your personal power to your runes. If you're using these runes for
religious purposes then design a small ritual and consecrate them
the same way you have with other tools that you may have consecrated
before.
If
you are not familiar with consecration, or would simply prefer not to
consecrate your runes that is your personal decision. StoneLite Creations
recommends to at least preparing your runes before using them for the first
time. You can do this simply by
holding the runes. Open your mind and familiarize yourself with each symbol,
perhaps even looking up the name of each and saying it softly to yourself.
This will allow your energies to enter into the runes for a more
personalized reading. If you
would like to read for someone else, they must first place their energies into
the runes. Lay the runes out and have the person you are reading for place
their open palm slightly over the runes. There is no right or wrong amount of time to do this, it is
simply ‘knowing’ that the energies have been placed. Make sure you repeat the process yourself before reading your
own runes again.
Storing
Your Runes
You
have been provided with a felt pouch or container to safely store
your runes. StoneLite
Creations recommends you to place the runes in a place that you are
likely to be present often so that your personal energies will
continually be absorbed by the runes for a deeper spiritual
connection. Your
bedside, or your altar, or some place that is special to you is a
great place to store your runes until you use them again. Your
relationship with your rune set will be a personal and spiritual one
from this point on, so safekeeping is important.
Casting
Casting
is a very personal experience, and therefore you may develop your
own methods for casting once you have become more experienced and
have learned to trust your intuition.
Many rune casters choose to cast their runes on a casting
cloth. The casting
cloth does not have to be fancy, even a placemat will work. If
colors are important to you, use the color that best represents your
own personal energy.
Laying
of the Runes
How
do you choose which rune(s) to use for each layout?
There is much dispute on this very question.
StoneLite believes that it is also a very personal decision,
and through time, you will develop your own techniques with what
simply ‘feels right’. Once
you let go of should be’s and have to be’s, you will be on the
right track to accepting your inner voice or intuition.
StoneLite
recommends laying all the runes out in front of you, with the
symbols hidden, or face down. It
does not matter if you can see through the runes; you will not be
looking at them when you choose them.
Then choose the layout that you would like to use.
Next, close your eyes and place your hand slightly over the
runes, with your palm facing down.
Take a deep breath and concentrate on a question you would
like to ask the runes. Don’t
be discouraged if you do not have a question’ just simply ask the
runes what is in store for you, or some other generalized question.
Next,
you will wave your hand slowly over the runes, without touching,
this way if you are familiar with the feel of your runes,
particularly if they are different shapes and sizes, you will not
subconsciously choose the one you want to be in the layout.
As your hand is waving over the runes, be aware of your
senses. When you pass over a rune that ‘feels’ right, or you have
a tingling sensation in your hand…stop.
The universe is guiding you to that rune. Pick up the rune, place it aside in it’s position (see
layouts for positioning) and repeat until you have chosen the
required amount of runes. The
runes in their positions should still be face down, but it does not
matter if one is upturned, just read each rune in its proper order
turning each one over, as you are ready to read it.
It
is said that a rune reading has a time span of three months.
That is three months into the future.
If you want a longer time span, be sure to mention this as
you are asking the runes your question.
For example, I would like to know how my trip is going to go
in 6 months… and so on.

The
most basic layout involves one tile.
Select one rune and perceive its overall energies and
feelings as the outcome of your question.
One rune readings are great for generalized readings, perhaps
to discover how your day is going to go.

This
is a very popular layout for rune readings.
It represents past, present and future.
When you lay the runes out in front of you, place the past
rune to the furthest left (position 1), place the present rune in
the center (position 2), and the future rune in the furthest right
position (position 3). Re3ad
the rue in the center, your present position first, then you read
the past influences that brought you to the present, and finally the
future outcome.

– Represents the question, the present position of the querent.
2
– Represents the past, the past that has brought the querent to
their present position or question
3
– Represents Influences of the querent.
People, material, karmic, spiritual, etc influences of the
querent that will be influential or helpful to the outcome of the
question at hand.
4
– Represents the situation on a whole, basically, what must be
accepted and cannot be changed.
5
– This is your final outcome, the result rune.
Usually this rune is used in conjunction with the other four
runes to create a scenario that is in conjunction with the question.
A negative rune in this position does not necessarily mean a
negative result, particularly if combined with positive runes in
other positions.
